Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
When the work Design for one side of an elaborate façade with a clock by Francesco Guardi was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at USD 35,280.00 (€ 29,072.93). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francesco Guardi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Venice, A View Of The Rialto Bridge, Looking North, From The Fondamenta Del Carbon in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 26,697,250.00 (€ 30,639,088.35).

Als die Arbeit Design for one side of an elaborate façade with a clock von Francesco Guardi im Januar 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 7.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 35.280,00 (€ 29.072,93) mehr als fünfmal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Francesco Guardi erzielen.
