Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A sybil in a white turban by Francesco Cairo was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 75,600.00 (€ 67,427.76). Admittedly, works by Francesco Cairo have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Le Départ du fils prodigue in March 2015 with an auction result of EUR 409,500.00.
