This artwork by Francesco Ballesio achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2007. In the 19th Century European Art & Orientalist Art auction, the work The Carpet Seller sold for USD 18,000.00 (€ 13,177.16) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francesco Ballesio - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Italian Odalisque, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 24,500.00 (€ 31,165.07).

In der Auktion 19th Century European Art & Orientalist Art wurde die Arbeit The Carpet Seller für USD 18.000,00 (€ 13.177,16) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 9.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Francesco Ballesio mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Italian Odalisque beobachtet, die im Mai 2008 für GBP 24.500,00 (€ 31.165,07) versteigert wurde.
