Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young bride selecting her wedding silks by Francesco Ballesio was sold in the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings, & Watercolors auction at Christies in New York in January 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 12,500.00 (€ 9,012.26) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francesco Ballesio - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Italian Odalisque, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 24,500.00 (€ 31,165.07).
