Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Landscape with Child and Dog by Fairfield Porter was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 927,500.00 (€ 821,741.83). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Fairfield Porter - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Schooner II, which sold at auction in May 2018 for USD 1,932,500.00 (€ 1,655,955.44).
