Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Belgian Chickens By A Hay Bail.; Chickens In A Barn In Winter by Eugène Rémy Maes was auctioned at Sothebys in London in October 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 4,750.00 (€ 6,054.55). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Eugène Rémy Maes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work In the Farm Yard, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 10,755.00 (€ 15,455.52).
