Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2011 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work Frenchtravelling Artists Sketching An Arab Encampment, Cairo by Emile Charles Lecomte-Vernet. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 35,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 37,500.00 (€ 27,874.82) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Emile Charles Lecomte-Vernet - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work French aimée, A Young Egyptian, which sold at auction in November 2010 for USD 92,500.00 (€ 70,957.35).
