Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2010 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work French The Tunisian Merchant by Émile Edmond Peynot. The price achieved of USD 25,000.00 (€ 18,794.17) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Émile Edmond Peynot - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Seated Arab Cleaning His Weapons, which sold at auction in May 2000 for USD 52,875.00 (€ 56,684.18).
