In November 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation, which included the work St Thomas'S Church, Stepney by Elwin Hawthorne. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,418.15), 33% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Elwin Hawthorne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cumberland Market, which sold at auction in November 2008 for GBP 5,250.00 (€ 6,347.64).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 33 % übertroffen
Im November 2008 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation durch, in der auch die Arbeit St Thomas'S Church, Stepney von Elwin Hawthorne zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.000,00 (€ 2.418,15) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Elwin Hawthorne mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Cumberland Market beobachtet, die im November 2008 für GBP 5.250,00 (€ 6.347,64) versteigert wurde.
