This artwork by Elwin Hawthorne achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in November 2008. In the A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation auction, the work Petrol Station sold for GBP 3,125.00 (€ 3,778.36) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Elwin Hawthorne; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Cumberland Market sold at auction in November 2008 with the realized price of GBP 5,250.00 (€ 6,347.64).

In der Auktion A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation wurde die Arbeit Petrol Station für GBP 3.125,00 (€ 3.778,36) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.500,00.
