Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Nativity, circa 1940 by Elijah Pierce was worth USD 20,000.00 (€ 17,818.96) to a buyer in February last year. This price was achieved in the auction Outsider Art at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 5,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Elijah Pierce; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Judas Kissing Jesus sold at auction in January this year with the realized price of USD 30,240.00 (€ 27,850.43).
