Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2008 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings, which included the work The Apotheosis of Romulus: Design for a ceiling by Domenico Maria Canuti. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 28,586.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Domenico Maria Canuti - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Alexander and Bucephalus, which sold at auction in July 2017 for GBP 75,000.00 (€ 83,688.48).
