Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fragments of a Colossal statue at the Memnonium, Thebes by David Roberts was auctioned at Christies in London in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 22,000.00 (€ 26,271.91). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Roberts achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Jerusalem, from the South in June 2016 with an auction result of GBP 962,500.00 (€ 1,155,314.09).
