In October 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Modern and Contemporary African Art, which included the work A Family In Their Shelter At Ktc Squatter Camp, Cape Town, 1984 by David Goldblatt. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,424.42), 35% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by David Goldblatt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Selected Images of South Africa in October 2017 with an auction result of USD 60,000.00 (€ 51,510.99).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 35 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2019 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Modern and Contemporary African Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Family In Their Shelter At Ktc Squatter Camp, Cape Town, 1984 von David Goldblatt zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 9.424,42) und damit 35% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von David Goldblatt auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Selected Images of South Africa im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 60.000,00 (€ 51.510,99).
