Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by David des Granges achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2008. In the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction, the work Charles II (1630-1685), as Prince of Wales, in steel cuirass and gorget, buff doublet with patterned sleeves, white lawn collar, wearing the blue sash of the Order of the Garter, natural curling brown hair sold for GBP 16,250.00 (€ 17,067.23) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by David des Granges; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A lady called Catherine of Braganza, in white silk-bordered russet dress, drop-pearl at corsage, blue shawl, pearl necklace, double drop-pearl earring, pearls in her upswept brown hair dressed in curls sold at auction in November 2007 with the realized price of GBP 13,700.00 (€ 19,183.54).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
