Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Pierre-Jean David d'Angers achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in May 2020. In the Refining Taste: Works Selected by Danny Katz auction, the work Portrait Medallion Of Charles Nicolas Fabvier sold for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,885.38) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Pierre-Jean David d'Angers achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Buste En Marbre Blanc En Hermès Représentant Marie-Joseph-Gilbert Du Motier, Marquis De La Fayette (1757-1834) in June 2010 with an auction result of EUR 1,521,000.00.
