Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
The work H.M.S. Victory , the stern view, as she breaks through the enemy line and engages the French vessels either side of her by David Brackman was worth GBP 62,500.00 (€ 74,263.52) to a buyer in July 2016. This price was achieved in the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by David Brackman; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot H.M.S. Victory , a bow view, breaking the enemy line at the Battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805 sold at auction in July 2016 with the realized price of GBP 64,900.00 (€ 77,115.24).
