Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Untitled (Butterfly Spin Painting) by Damien Hirst was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in November 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 45,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 138,600.00 (€ 15,410.92). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Damien Hirst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lullaby Spring in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 9,652,000.00 (€ 14,323,082.54).
