This work of art by Cornelis Schut could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper auction, the work The beheading of St. John the Baptist changed hands for USD 1,134.00 (€ 1,011.42) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Cornelis Schut achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Abduction Of Europa in October 2020 with an auction result of USD 352,800.00 (€ 302,910.62).
