Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A View Of The Beach Of Scheveningen, Possibly The Intended Departure Of King Charles Ii For England, 1659 by Cornelis Beelt was auctioned at Sothebys in Amsterdam in May 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 38,650.00. Other works by Cornelis Beelt have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in May 2006 by the work The Departure of King Charles II From Scheveningen On The 24 May 1660 at EUR 45,600.00.
