Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work A Landscape with an architectural capriccio of Tivoli; A Landscape with falls and a bridge by Claude-Louis Châtelet was auctioned at Sothebys in Paris in June 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 10,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at EUR 81,900.00. Admittedly, works by Claude-Louis Châtelet have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Pyramid at the Château de Maupertuis in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 391,000.00 (€ 419,168.10).
