Auction result well in line with expectations

In October this year Phillips in London held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, which included the work Kate by Chuck Close. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 44,450.00 (€ 51,040.95) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chuck Close achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gwynne in May 2004 with an auction result of USD 2,807,500.00 (€ 2,298,027.34).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Im Oktober diesen Jahres führte Phillips in London die Auktion 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Kate von Chuck Close zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 44.450,00 (€ 51.040,95) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Chuck Close erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Gwynne im Mai 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.807.500,00 (€ 2.298.027,34).
