engraving, 1577, on laid paper, watermark Praying Saint in a Shield, a very good but later impression of this very rare print, published in 1628, trimmed to or just inside the platemark, the tip of the upper right corner made up, pale scattered pinpoint foxmarks, some creases, otherwise in good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portion of the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, from: Sibyls and Prophets from the Sistine Chapel Vaults by Cherubino Alberti was sold in the Old Master Prints auction at Christies in New York in January 2019. The price achieved of USD 1,250.00 (€ 1,091.32) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Cherubino Alberti achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Two Prisoners in January 2017 with an auction result of USD 65,000.00 (€ 60,218.64).

Die Arbeit Portion of the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, from: Sibyls and Prophets from the Sistine Chapel Vaults von Cherubino Alberti wurde im Januar 2019 in der Auktion Old Master Prints bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 1.250,00 (€ 1.091,32) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Cherubino Alberti erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Two Prisoners im Januar 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 65.000,00 (€ 60.218,64).
