Ink on paper, a 72-leaf album written in standard script, expressing condolences for the passing of Chen's teacher, He Yiqing (d. 1898), in the second month of the twenty-fourth year of the Guangxu reign (1898), signed Chen Baochen, followed by a later inscription, dated guiyou year (1933) and signed Chen Baochen, with two artist's seals.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Calligraphy Album by Chen Baochen was sold in the Fine Asian Works of Art auction at Bonhams in December last year. The price achieved of USD 20,400.00 (€ 19,068.98) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Chen Baochen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy, which sold at auction in April 2019 for HKD 400,000.00 (€ 45,531.65).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Calligraphy Album von Chen Baochen wurde im Dezember letzten Jahres in der Auktion Fine Asian Works of Art bei Bonhams versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 20.400,00 (€ 19.068,98) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Chen Baochen mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Calligraphy beobachtet, die im April 2019 für HKD 400.000,00 (€ 45.531,65) versteigert wurde.
