Auction result well in line with expectations

In September 2010 Christies in London held the auction Exploration and Travel including the Polar Sale, which included the work Charles Wright's map of the Southern Journey, 1911 by Charles Seymour Wright. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 26,023.64) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Seymour Wright - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13: Wright's photographs -- a large collection of approximately 1,573 vintage contact prints and gelatin silver prints by Wright and other of Ponting's pupils at Cape Evans, which sold at auction in September 2010 for GBP 73,250.00 (€ 84,721.40).
