Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A gentleman in black coat and cravat, yellow waistcoat; landscape background by Charles Pierre Cior was sold in the Portrait Miniatures, Objects of Vertu, Selected Silver, and auction at Christies in London in November 2005. The price achieved of GBP 300.00 (€ 440.74) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 250.00 – 350.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Pierre Cior - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A young lady, full face in lace-bordered off-the-shoulder pale pink dress, pink belt with gold buckle, pearl necklace, her brown hair dressed in ringlets and an Apollo knot held by a tortoiseshell comb; foliate background; and her mother, facing left, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 822.50 (€ 1,344.34
