In August 2021 Bonhams in Los Angeles held the auction Portrait of the WestThe Diane and Sam Stewart Collection, which included the work Ute Indian Chief by Charles Craig. The »bidding war« ended at USD 11,475.00 (€ 9,724.58), 64% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Craig - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Meeting on the Mesa, which sold at auction in May 2000 for USD 21,150.00 (€ 22,673.67).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 64 % übertroffen
Im August 2021 führte Bonhams in Los Angeles die Auktion Portrait of the WestThe Diane and Sam Stewart Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Ute Indian Chief von Charles Craig zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 11.475,00 (€ 9.724,58) und damit 64% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles Craig mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Meeting on the Mesa beobachtet, die im Mai 2000 für USD 21.150,00 (€ 22.673,67) versteigert wurde.
