Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Charles-Antoine Coypel achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2012. In the Old Master & Early British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work The head of the Virgin, looking up to the right, with a subsidiary study of a hand sold for GBP 15,000.00 (€ 19,105.97) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles-Antoine Coypel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Roland And The Marriage Of Angelique in January 2012 with an auction result of USD 3,554,500.00 (€ 2,723,128.78).
