The »bidding war« ended at USD 965,000.00 (€ 854,738.71), 38% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles-Antoine Coypel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Roland And The Marriage Of Angelique, which sold at auction in January 2012 for USD 3,554,500.00 (€ 2,723,128.78).

Die Arbeit Cheerful Democritus; Sorrowful Heraclitus von Charles-Antoine Coypel wurde im Januar 2015 in der Auktion Master Paintings: Part I bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 965.000,00 (€ 854.738,71) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Charles-Antoine Coypel mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Roland And The Marriage Of Angelique beobachtet, die im Januar 2012 für USD 3.554.500,00 (€ 2.723.128,78) versteigert wurde.
