Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Yosemite Falls, 1865-1866 by Carleton E. Watkins was sold in the Photographs auction at Christies in New York in April 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,625.00 (€ 8,832.09) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carleton E. Watkins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Garrison, Columbia River' in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 492,000.00 (€ 360,175.70).

Die Arbeit Yosemite Falls, 1865-1866 von Carleton E. Watkins wurde im April 2021 in der Auktion Photographs bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 10.625,00 (€ 8.832,09) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Carleton E. Watkins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'The Garrison, Columbia River' im April 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 492.000,00 (€ 360.175,70).
