In September 2005 Christies in London held the auction Exploration and Travel with The Polar Sale, which included the work Sketch on the Wahapu beach, Bay of Islands by Captain Richard Aldworth Oliver. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 7,800.00 (€ 11,447.07), 56% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Captain Richard Aldworth Oliver - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sketches in the New Hebrides and New Caledonia, which sold at auction in December 2016 for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 32,151.96).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 56 % übertroffen
Im September 2005 führte Christies in London die Auktion Exploration and Travel with The Polar Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sketch on the Wahapu beach, Bay of Islands von Captain Richard Aldworth Oliver zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 7.800,00 (€ 11.447,07) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Captain Richard Aldworth Oliver mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Sketches in the New Hebrides and New Caledonia beobachtet, die im Dezember 2016 für GBP 27.500,00 (€ 32.151,96) versteigert wurde.
