Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Calligraphy Couplet In Running Script by Cai Yuanpei was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2017, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 9,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at USD 37,500.00 (€ 35,053.28). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cai Yuanpei - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Seven-character Calligraphic Couplet in Running Script, which sold at auction in November 2018 for HKD 875,000.00 (€ 98,759.16).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Calligraphy Couplet In Running Script von Cai Yuanpei im März 2017 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 9.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 37.500,00 (€ 35.053,28) mehr als viermal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Cai Yuanpei mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Seven-character Calligraphic Couplet in Running Script beobachtet, die im November 2018 für HKD 875.000,00 (€ 98.759,16) versteigert wurde.
