In May 2000 a collector was able to acquire the work Elms at Sunrise by Bernhard Gutmann for USD 28,200.00 (€ 30,231.56). This price was achieved in the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Elms at Sunrise is the most expensive artwork by Bernhard Gutmann that we have observed at auction so far.
