Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Views of Rome: The Colosseum; and The Arch of Septimius Severus, with the church of San Luca and Santa Martina by Bernardo Canal was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 70,000.00 – 100,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 70,850.00 (€ 87,377.73) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bernardo Canal - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Venice, A View Of The Entrance To The Grand Canal With The Bacino Di San Marco, which sold at auction in January 2013 for USD 266,500.00 (€ 196,186.69).
