Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters including Old Master & British Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work A Classical Battle, Probably Depicting The Defeat Of Hannibal By Scipio Africanus Major (Circa 235-183 B.C.) by Bernardino Cesari. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 19,693.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Bernardino Cesari have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Perseus And Andromeda in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 112,500.00 (€ 100,905.91).
