Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by Balthasar Burkhard achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in March 2018. In the TO LIVE WITH ART: Property from the Jerome & Ellen Stern Collection auction, the work Namibia (Desert) sold for USD 25,000.00 (€ 20,292.21) - well above the upper estimate of USD 12,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Balthasar Burkhard; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Montagnes (Diptyque, Tirage Positif Et Tirage Négatif) sold at auction in May 2009 with the realized price of EUR 31,950.00.

Dieses Kunstwerk von Balthasar Burkhard erzielte im März 2018 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion TO LIVE WITH ART: Property from the Jerome & Ellen Stern Collection wurde die Arbeit Namibia (Desert) für USD 25.000,00 (€ 20.292,21) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 12.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Balthasar Burkhard; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Montagnes (Diptyque, Tirage Positif Et Tirage Négatif) im Mai 2009 mit dem Hammerpreis von EUR 31.950,00.
