The work Preface to the Orchid Pavilion by Bada Shanren was worth HKD 30,125,000.00 (€ 3,493,942.28) to a buyer in November 2019. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 1,800,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Bada Shanren - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Album Of Natore, which sold at auction in May 2016 for HKD 76,910,000.00 (€ 8,889,373.15).
