Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'Pacification with the maroon negroes in the island of Jamaica' by Augustin Brunias was sold in the Exploration and Travel auction at Christies in London in September 2003. The price achieved of GBP 65,725.00 (€ 66,203.00) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Augustin Brunias - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Free Women Of Dominica Bathing In A Stream; Free Women Of Dominica; A Young Couple And Child Promenading, Dominica; Flower Girls Of Dominica; Free Women Of Dominica With Child; And A Native Family Of St. Vincent, which sold at auction in June last year for USD 214,200.00 (€ 204,604.07).
