In April 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art including The Orientalist Sale, which included the work French The Letter by Auguste Toulmouche. The »bidding war« ended at USD 73,000.00 (€ 46,891.06), 46% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Auguste Toulmouche - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vanity, which sold at auction in May 2001 for USD 88,125.00 (€ 104,228.27).
