Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
When the work Orientale À L'Amphore by Arthur Waagen was auctioned at Artcurial in Marrakech in December 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - MAD 13,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at MAD 70,200.00 (€ 6,636.68). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Arthur Waagen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work German "Couple Algerien", A Pair Of Bronze Figural Reliefs, which sold at auction in March 2009 for USD 28,750.00 (€ 21,680.11).
Kunstwerk zum Fünffachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Orientale À L'Amphore von Arthur Waagen im Dezember 2021 bei Artcurial in Marrakesch versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – MAD 13.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit MAD 70.200,00 (€ 6.636,68) mehr als fünfmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Arthur Waagen mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit German "Couple Algerien", A Pair Of Bronze Figural Reliefs beobachtet, die im März 2009 für USD 28.750,00 (€ 21.680,11) versteigert wurde.
