This price was achieved in the auction Exploration and Travel at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Cherry-Garrard's silk sledging flag, sewn and embroidered by his sister, Ida Cherry-Garrard, and carried on Scott's British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13 in September 2008 with an auction result of GBP 37,250.00 (€ 47,098.86).
