This artwork by Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2010. In the Exploration and Travel including the Polar Sale auction, the work Mount Erebus sold for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,734.70) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Apsley George Benet Cherry-Garrard - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cherry-Garrard's silk sledging flag, sewn and embroidered by his sister, Ida Cherry-Garrard, and carried on Scott's British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13, which sold at auction in September 2008 for GBP 37,250.00 (€ 47,098.86).
