Auction result misses estimated price range

In December 2001 a collector was able to acquire the work Dead hare, partridges and other birds on a partially draped ledge with a copper basin filled with water, a cat on a window ledge beyond by Antonio Maria Vassallo for GBP 4,700.00 (€ 7,679.15). This price was achieved in the auction FURNITURE AND WORKS OF ART at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Antonio Maria Vassallo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Forest Floor Still Life With A Dog, A Cockerel, Horse Chestnuts And A Melon; A Forest Floor Still Life With Figs, Pears, Melons, Apricots And Cucumbers, which sold at auction in July 2012 for GBP 20,000.00 (€ 25,474.62).
