The work Saint John The Baptist by Anton Raphael Mengs was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2014. It achieved a price of GBP 134,500.00 (€ 169,646.79), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 68%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Anton Raphael Mengs - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle, which sold at auction in July last year for GBP 475,000.00 (€ 567,234.37).

Die Arbeit Saint John The Baptist von Anton Raphael Mengs wurde im Juli 2014 in der Auktion Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 134.500,00 (€ 169.646,79) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 68%. Für andere Arbeiten von Anton Raphael Mengs mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle beobachtet, die im Juli letzten Jahres für GBP 475.000,00 (€ 567.234,37) versteigert wurde.
