Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July 2013 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale, which included the work Saint John The Baptist In The Desert by Anton Raphael Mengs. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 32,500.00 (€ 37,136.91). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Anton Raphael Mengs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle in July last year with an auction result of GBP 475,000.00 (€ 567,234.37).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Friedrich Christian, Prince of Saxony (1722-1763), three-quarter-length, in armour, with an ermine lined mantle and the sash and star of the Order of the White Eagle im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 475.000,00 (€ 567.234,37).
