2 o (315 x 199 mm). Letterpress title and one leaf of text. 39 engraved plates, comprising three suites. (Two large holes in title leaf removing provenance evidence, affecting text on verso.) Contemporary limp vellum (recased). Provenance: acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1985.
FIRST EDITION. Guilmard calls for three leaves of text and 12 plates, while Geymüller calls for 40 plates and 2 leaves of text. Guilmard, p.13; Geymüller, p. 314-5.

A VERY FINE COLLECTION OF FIVE SUITES OF ANDROUET DU CERCEAU'S ARCHITECTURAL AND ORNAMENTAL ENGRAVINGS. The Petit traitte des cinq orders de colomnes comprises the suites on columns, starting with larger details and followed by smaller details and finally overall views of various Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns. The suite of plates for keys, keyholes, knockers and signs that follows is of great rarity. The final two suites bound in the volume detail terms and caryatids and marquetry designs.
