Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Kew avenue from my own gate near Colombo, Oct 31 1848; and Elie House, Mutural, Colombo – a sketch by Andrew Nicholl was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 3,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,049.19). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Andrew Nicholl - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Poppies, cornflowers and daisies on Killiney Hill; Killiney Bay, Bray Head and the Sugar Loaf mountain in the distance, which sold at auction in May 2000 for GBP 21,150.00 (€ 33,937.95).
