Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of His Royal Highness The Duke Of Clarence, K.G., K.T., K.C.B., (Later King William Iv) 1827, Standing, Full Length by Andrew Morton was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,585.00 (€ 4,113.55). Other works by Andrew Morton have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in January 2005 by the work Philip Sidney, 1st Lord de L'Isle and Lady de L'Isle at GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,507.01).
