Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Andrew Morton could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2005 for an unexpectedly low price. In the THE ROYAL & SUNALLIANCE COLLECTION auction, the work Portrait of Abel Chapman, three-quarter-length, seated, in a brown coat and red velvet waistcoat, with his left hand resting beside some documents addressed to 'Abel Chapman Esquire, London Assurance Corporation, Royal Exchange' changed hands for GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,125.89) - missing the lower end of the estimate r However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Andrew Morton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Philip Sidney, 1st Lord de L'Isle and Lady de L'Isle, which sold at auction in January 2005 for GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,507.01).
