Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a lady, small half-length, seated, in a black dress with shawl and white mob cap by Andrew Geddes was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 720.00 (€ 1,059.53). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrew Geddes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Flora Bellasis, three-quarter-length, in Indian Parsi dress in October 2006 with an auction result of GBP 19,200.00 (€ 28,686.51).
